May the force Pea with you!

Julia Fitzgerald of St. Vincent’s residential retreat centre describes its own take on CAFOD’s Hungry for change campaign.

Here at St. Vincent’s we are tackling CAFOD’s latest campaign Hunger for Change. We are doing this with the support of the CAFOD resources and a little idea of our own, the Pledge Pea Gang who desperately need people to be making Pea Pledges.

The pea pledge gang

The purpose of the Pea Pledges is to raise awareness for CAFOD’s new campaign Hunger for change and to make people more mindful about the food that they eat and how little changes can make a big difference to the global community.

Visitors to our house are asked to write a pledge on the picnic blanket about how they are going to show their awareness of the issues surrounding the campaign. Some are doing this through pledging to take a short term loan or give something up and offering the money they save to CAFOD. Others are pledging to pray or to spread the word; all are great ways to support the campaign and they all receive a Pledge Pea sticker.

For our own amusement we have the pea of the week, this knowledgeable pea highlights some important facts surrounding the campaign and offers good ideas on how to jump on board the campaign yourself. We have had great fun finding Pea Puns and are always on the lookout for more. This week’s Pea is R2Pea2 (may the force ‘Pea’ with you!)

Watch out for some more well-known peas heading your way. Our line-up is lucky enough to include Peaonce and the Peattles as well as many more!

Finally, we have an Escapea – whereabouts unknown. He was last seen somewhere in our house! He is on a covert mission spreading word on the hunger for change campaign if found he must be hidden again so that he can continue his mission.
