Anna, with her colleague Stephen from the CAFOD education team, travelled in July 2008 to Sydney, Australia, for the 22nd World Youth Day - the largest gathering of young people in the world.

125,000 international pilgrims are joining 100,000 pilgrims from Australia and representatives from the Catholic church all over the world in a massive celebration of faith and solidarity.

World Youth Day is an invitation from the Pope to the youth of the world to celebrate their faith around a particular theme.

She says: “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of this experience with the young adults of the world.”

Anna also previously travelled to Sierra Leone with CAFOD – a country ravaged by war, leaving its people with many scars, but also filled with breathtaking landscapes and a population rich in hope.

Her online diary covers a week-long journey around the West African country, visiting CAFOD partners along the way.

Many groups have been set up to help those traumatised by the recent conflict, from teaching carpentry to ex-soldiers to peacefully reintegrating people back into their communities.
