Colourful carnivals and parades are part of life for people in Brazil, bringing communities together to celebrate. But they can also help with serious work.
Parts of the city of Recife have murder rates as high as some war zones. Growing towards Peace teaches dance and drumming and uses carnivals to bring the community together, especially its young people.
Its eco-action work also encourages the community to plant trees, recycle and improve the environment they live in.
The project is creating a positive alternative to a reality where drugs, crime and killings are an everyday experience.
