Nepal: Simple skills for wonderful flavours

One villager’s vegetable plotWe begin today with another healthy hike up what turns out to be a very steep hill.

It’s worth it when we reach the top though, the views are just stunning and we visit another plantation area on the way.

We travel by car to another village in the afternoon and are treated to more flowers, singing and dancing.

Nepal: A village of women

Hom Nath, nursery manager, who is able to give saplings free of charge to a women’s plantation group with Caritas Nepal’s helpDuring the night one of the houses in our village suffers a fire and is completely destroyed.

Luckily no one is badly injured, but it reminds me how different life is here, no emergency services to call and no critical illness insurance companies to carry the damage.

Nepal: Happiness in the Himalayas

Suzanna (right) relaxes in Sirubari villageThis morning I wake up to the most amazing view from my bedroom window: the Himalayas highlighted in the early morning sun, behind the hills of Pokhara. A little different from the normal view of trains racing past my house back in London!

I am in Nepal, having arrived here yesterday to take part in a four-day immersion, living with families who are benefitting from projects with CAFOD partners, in order to gain a much better understanding of the project and the people themselves.
