Against this backdrop of economic collapse, you would think that there is no room for humour, but I’m sensing that humour actually plays a big part in people’s ability to cope. The staff I am with are great and take any opportunity to exercise their barbed wit.

Zimbabwe: Dawn of a new era?

Newspaper headlines scream “Dawn of a new era!” accompanied by photos of cordial handshakes and the centre pages fold out into verbatim copy of the Agreement. There’s an opportunity to get over to the Archbishop of Harare’s house – Robert Ndlovu – and do an interview with him. It is a short car ride away.

Zimbabwe: Arriving at Harare

Arriving at Harare airport, pristine clean and orderly, even the taxi drivers waiting to pick up passengers are in a neat orderly fashion. Doesn’t seem like I’m walking out into a country that is in freefall economic collapse.
