Silverstone in the rain!
On Sunday 24 November, 14 intrepid souls stepped out onto the track at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit to run for CAFOD, despite the very real presence of Storm Bert!
Supporters from across the UK including three religious sisters and 4 teachers joined forces to run anything from 5km to a half marathon on the track at Silverstone. It was an amazing day and despite the weather, all the runners were in good spirits. There was a real feeling of togetherness in adversity.
One of the fcj sisters, Sr Lynne, said,
“We did it!!! 5k run at Silverstone. Storm Bert joined us too. I’m very proud of myself and delighted to have run for such a good cause (CAFOD) and we had a great team. It’s not too late to sponsor us! AND I managed to run in less than 40 mins!!!!!”
Another of our runners, Matthew, came from English Martyrs Academy in Long Eaton. He took on the half marathon, running for about 2 hours in the awful conditions. Even though he said it was tough, Matthew is interested in coming again next year. Below is a picture of him with his family.
The first person to finish from the CAFOD crowd was Fr Moses of the Missionaries to Africa. He finished the 5km in a very respectable 27 minutes and 16 seconds.
Thanks to all the people who ran the Silverstone event for CAFOD. We can’t wait until the next instalment in 2025.
