Fundraising at Rachel’s pop-up origami shop

Origami isn’t just a beautiful art form – it can also be a powerful tool for change. One creative fundraiser is using her passion for paper folding to support families in crisis.

Fundraising can take many forms. Whether it’s setting up a fundraising page online, running a marathon, or hosting an event, giving back to others often inspires creativity.

That’s exactly what Rachel Stone has done with her brilliant idea to set up a pop-up origami shop at her workplace. Rachel’s Pop-Up Origami Shop offers a variety of handcrafted paper items, and her colleagues are invited to purchase their favourites while donating whatever they can. Rachel has also created a JustGiving page to promote her shop and collect donations.

Rachel’s latest origami fundraiser will run for three weeks, with new products being introduced each week. The shop is loosely themed around the recent Valentine’s Day but offers something for everyone – not just romantic couples. Shoppers can find paper flowers, handmade cards, gift boxes, bookmarks, and even tiny origami elephants.

This isn’t Rachel’s first time combining her creative talents with fundraising. During the Christmas season in 2024, she ran a similar origami pop-up shop to raise funds for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), of which CAFOD is a member of, supporting people affected by the conflicts in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon. That event was a great success, raising £300. “It was really popular with my colleagues, so I thought I’d do another one,” Rachel shared.

Rachel’s vibrant origami creations have already helped her raise £152 and counting for CAFOD’s Sudan appeal. Her story is a beautiful example of how personal passions can be transformed into powerful acts of support for those in crisis.

If you feel inspired by Rachel’s story and want to support CAFOD’s emergency work in Sudan, you can visit her JustGiving page and make a donation. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps provide essential aid to families in desperate need.

Together, we can build a better world for everyone – one fold at a time!
