The London Marathon is this weekend!

The London Marathon is just a few days away, and CAFOD has 38 brave souls who are ready to take their places on the starting line. We’d like to introduce you to Matt and Felicia who have been training and fundraising for the Marathon in support of CAFOD’s work around the world.

Over 50,000 people will be lining up for the Marathon this year, and one of those will be Matt Simmons. Matt joined the team quite late but has embraced the heart of TeamCAFOD.

He explains why he wanted to run the Marathon, and his motivation to run for CAFOD:

“Having been a keen runner for a few years, I was inspired to run the London Marathon after going up to watch a few friends run in 2024 and while waiting and watching thousands of people run past all seeming to have a great time thinking “I can run about the same as some of these…”

“After missing out in the ballot, I was delighted when CAFOD offered me a spot on their team.  Knowing the money, I’ve been raising from family, friends and work colleagues is going to support such worthwhile activities has been a great motivator for my training.”

Matt has really enjoyed being part of the team, and can’t wait to get going on Sunday:

“The support from the CAFOD team and sense of community with the rest of the runners has been great over the last couple of months and I look forward to enjoying the big day with them all.”

Also taking part for CAFOD is Felicia. She is planning to walk the Marathon.

“I have for many years been wanting to take part in the marathon.  I applied in 2021, but did not get through the ballot. I was lucky enough to do the virtual marathon in 2022 but this year I was presented with the opportunity to fundraise for CAFOD and compete in the 2025 marathon which has been a long dream of mine. I’ve specifically chosen CAFOD as they really show that they care for people no matter their circumstances or who they may be as well as being aligned with my faith as a Catholic which has quite inspired me.”

Facing 26.2 miles of running and walking will be a great challenge, but with the support of each other and the knowledge of the good their fundraising will do we are confident they will win through.
