Give the gift of hope this Advent

Christmas presents

Christmas is a time for giving back and for remembering those who are struggling with poverty this winter.  This Christmas, give the gift of hope with some of our World Gifts. Support one of our Christmas events in person or online or, even better, plan your own! There’s no end to the number of ways that you can make a difference this Christmas.

Gold, Frankincense and…water for a family?

St. Peter’s CAFOD Club meet once a week to learn about some of the people that CAFOD helps.

Students at St. Peter’s primary school in Gateshead formed their own CAFOD Club to learn about how CAFOD transforms the lives of people in desperate need and to try to be a part of that change.

With Christmas coming up, St. Peter’s CAFOD Club decided to make a difference. Instead of giving Christmas cards, they are encouraging their classmates to help them raise enough money to provide a safe source of drinking water for seven families!

‘We chose water as our World Gift because it is something we take for granted every day.’ – Aoife

‘We drink water every day and never think about what it would it be like if we didn’t have it.’ – Eva-Renee

‘It is so easy for us to turn on a tap. We wanted to make sure children like us could also get clean water easily.’ – Megan and Mila

Their empathy could save lives this Christmas, so we just wanted to say a big thank you to St. Peter’s CAFOD club and to everyone who has donated so far!

If you would like to support their appeal, then you can donate here to help them reach their £231 target.

You can also check out our other World Gifts here, for gifts to fit every price range (starting at just £4!). Give your friends and family something truly life-changing this Christmas.

Sing Song Merrily on High!

Musicians and choirs from across Upholland putting on a spectacular service of carols for CAFOD.

St. Teresa’s Church in Upholland was joined by local choirs and musicians from six schools to put on a Carol Service that raised nearly £2,000 for CAFOD’s Advent Appeal, which this year is helping families like Nyanguet’s living through the worst drought in forty years.

Nyanguet is surrounded by her five children
Nyanguet and her children were forced to flee their home and are now suffering through what is being called the worst drought in forty years.

Nyanguet fled with her children when her village was attacked and her home burnt down. After an 80 mile journey, her family are now safe but there is no water for them to grow the food they need to survive. Your donation this Advent could help provide Nyanguet, and many like her, with emergency food and water and with more drought-resistant seeds to help them in the future.

Thank you to everyone in Upholland who came together to support CAFOD’s work in tackling this crisis. To find out more about Nyanguet’s story and CAFOD’s Advent Appeal 2022, or to donate towards helping families like Nyanguet’s, click the button below.

Or try something else…

  • Get crafty; bake some festive goodies or make some Christmas decorations, then sell them in your local community and raise money for families like Nyanguet’s.
  • Warm up your vocal chords and spread some Christmas joy with carol singing – just don’t forget to bring a bucket for donations!
  • Have some donation boxes or World Gift catalogues at your Christmas party this year and invite people to donate as they dance the night away.
  • Declutter for Christmas and make a difference by selling anything in reasonable condition and donating the proceeds to CAFOD.
  • There is no limit to what you can do to help those in need this Christmas. Think about what you enjoy, what you’re good at, get your friends involved, and use your talents to open a door to hope this Christmas!
