Thanking schools for supporting CAFOD this year

Children walking against hunger with CAFOD
Children in the CAFOD Club at St Chad’s Primary school in Corydon have been walking Against Hunger.

As we head into a new academic year, we find ourselves reflecting and as always, are immensely proud of the efforts of children and young people in Catholic schools across England and Wales, in supporting our work. Together you prayed, campaigned and fundraised with CAFOD.

In the 2021-22 academic year, 825 schools fundraised for CAFOD. From ‘bright green fundraising’ during Harvest, to walking over 180,000km – more than 4 times around the world! – to help children at risk of malnutrition, during Lent.

Your support helps us to continue to reach out to our global family living in poverty, with practical help.

But it doesn’t stop there. Together you prayed, campaigned and fundraised with CAFOD. Here are just a few of the highlights:

Celebrating your achievements

  • This year CAFOD’s work was supported by almost half of all catholic schools across England and Wales. Your generous donations helped CAFOD to respond to emergencies, fund clinics to help new mothers learn about nutritious food to nourish their children, and support Amazonian communities to protect the rainforest. Thank you!
  • Your support of CAFOD’s Ukraine appeal was overwhelming! You raised over £134k helping our local experts to provide food, shelter and essential healthcare to families in desperate need.
  • This summer, children and young people raised their voices as part of our Step up to the plate campaign, calling on our government to keep its COP26 promises to limit the effects of climate change, and to support the poorest communities around the world.
  • Over 300 primary schools have registered for a CAFOD Club, helping pupils to live out their faith and build a brighter world.
  • 279 students from 42 schools and colleges took action to fight for global justice as part of our Young Leadership programme.

CAFOD is part of Caritas International, one of the largest aid agencies in the world, meaning we have the potential to reach everyone.

And we campaign for global justice, so that every woman, man and child can live a full and dignified life. But we can’t do this without your help.

Thank you for everything you do to support CAFOD and motivating your students to become active global citizens. We are truly inspired by all that you do.
