Marcus and the Big Half
Marcus Warner lined up at the Big Half Marathon in London on Sunday 1 September as CAFOD’s representative among 16,000 other runners.
The Big Half Marathon is an inclusive, fun and family-friendly annual running event that is organised by London Marathon Events and was first held in 2018.
Starting from Tower Bridge and finishing by the Cutty Sark it passes by the boroughs of Southwark, Lewisham, Tower Hamlets and Greenwich along the way.
As a CAFOD supporter, Marcus Warner ran at the Big Half this year and in addition he set up a fundraising page responding to CAFOD’s Sudan Crisis Appeal.
Marcus’ quotes and comments on his page reflect his concerns about the situation in Sudan:
“If one of us is hurt, hungry or abandoned, we all are hurt, hungry and abandoned. No one should be beyond the love and support they need to live a dignified life.
“The war in Sudan has forced 8.5 million people to flee their homes, creating one of the world’s largest displacement crises. Now the situation has deteriorated rapidly, and those caught up in the middle of the conflict are facing yet another crisis – hunger.”
Even before the big day and during his preparation for the event, Marcus was already able to raise £500 for CAFOD.
And with his amazing efforts and his dedication to the cause he has raised a total of £1,015 so far which is amazing!
Despite the challenge of the heat, Marcus finished the Big Half in an incredible time of 2 hours and 18 minutes.
On his fundraising page he expressed his deep gratitude to all his supporters:
“Thanks to all my supporters – your generous donations to CAFOD helped me to keep going when it got really tough. These donations will make such a difference in CAFOD’s work alleviating hunger, suffering and poverty around the world.”
