Stepping forward in faith: Rachel, Mason and Anthonia take on the Big Lent Walk

Lent is a time of reflection, renewal and action. And for many, it’s a chance to put faith into motion – quite literally! This year, as we celebrate the Jubilee year, you are embracing the Big Lent Walk, stepping up to support CAFOD’s vital work and walking in solidarity with communities around the world.

A family tradition of walking for good

For Rachel and Mason, the Big Lent Walk is becoming a meaningful family tradition. Having taken part last year, they are eager to lace up their shoes once more.

“We’ve decided to take part in the Big Lent Walk again, especially with it being the Year of Jubilee and embracing the theme of Pilgrims of Hope,” Rachel shared. “Mason was delighted with raising over £500 for CAFOD when he completed the mini Great North Run, and he’s keen to take part in the Big Lent Walk, whether he covers the distance walking, scooting, skateboarding or on his bike! We are hoping to cover quite a few miles of the north-east coast.”

For Mason, fundraising and taking part in a challenge like this is a fantastic way to combine his love of movement with a passion for helping others. Every step he takes—whether on foot or wheels—is a step towards creating a better world.

Walking with Christ: Anthonia’s first Big Lent Walk

This year also welcomes new walkers to the challenge, including Anthonia, who is eager to put her regular walking routine to good use.

“I am already walking at least 10km a week, so seeing this makes me feel even more motivated to do something for a good cause,” she said. “I will walk with Christ this Lent, every step, every day for a good cause.”

For Anthonia, the Big Lent Walk is more than just a physical challenge—it’s a spiritual journey, aligning her daily steps with her faith and love for our global family.

Walking in solidarity

The Big Lent Walk is not just about personal achievements – it’s about walking in solidarity with our sisters and brothers to build a better world for all of us. By taking part, Rachel, Mason and Anthonia are raising vital funds to help fight global poverty.

As they embark on their journeys – whether along the north-east coast, through city streets or across countryside paths – they join a wider community of walkers, all moving as Pilgrims of Hope.

Will you join them? Sign up for the Big Lent Walk and walk in faith, hope and love this Lent.
