TeamCAFOD at the London Marathon: Andy’s story
The London Marathon returns, and TeamCAFOD is back bigger and better than ever! On Sunday 21 April, 18 incredible runners will be taking to the streets of London to run a staggering 26.2 miles, all raising money to support CAFOD’s work around the world. In this series, hear from some of the team about how they’re gearing up for the big day.
With just over one week to go until London Marathon 2024, we turn to another member of TeamCAFOD, Andy, to hear about how he’s preparing for the big day.
Tell us about your running journey so far. How’s the training going?
The London marathon will be my first ever marathon! I have completed a few 10k’s and half marathons, but never a full marathon.
Training has been hard, but thinking about how I feel now on a run compared to how I felt after a long run at the beginning of training gives me faith and confidence that I’m on the right track.
How’s the fundraising going?
As a school family we did a fun run together that raised £1900. I was so proud of all the boys and girls who ran for 26.2 minutes from reception to year 6 – everyone took part! On the day we had a whole school collective worship about CAFOD and the children learnt in class about the charity too. Most importantly, they all actually had lots of fun!
What does running for CAFOD mean to you?
The reason why I chose CAFOD as my charity is for 12 years I have worked at a school that each year fundraises for the charity. I saw running the marathon as a great way to bring the charity into the school, let the children learn how much good CAFOD do for the world and together knew we could raise lots of money. Running the marathon for CAFOD has really helped bring the whole community together.
Good luck Andy for next Sunday! You can show Andy your support here.
