Silverstone Run Fest: CAFOD’s runners go the extra mile
The Silverstone Run Fest brings together runners of all levels in the UK to experience the thrill of running on the iconic Silverstone circuit. More than just a race, this event offers the chance to raise awareness and funds for meaningful causes. For Lynne and MaryAnne, dedicated supporters of CAFOD, this year’s Silverstone 5K isn’t just a race. It’s a personal journey of fitness, resilience and passion for social justice.
Lynne’s support for CAFOD goes beyond the finish line—she is inspired by CAFOD’s dual approach of providing both practical aid and long-term training to build sustainable futures. Her commitment to CAFOD shines through, especially as she prepares for this year’s event:
“I’m supporting CAFOD by training for the Silverstone 5k because I see the excellent work they do both in practical aid and in training and awareness raising.
Running, however, hasn’t always been a regular activity for her, making the 5K a particularly meaningful challenge. I haven’t run for years so it’s quite a challenge to get ready for the event, but I’m enjoying the challenge!” she says.
What stands out most about her journey is the spirit of community that has formed around her. Donning her CAFOD t-shirt during training runs, Lynne receives countless smiles and words of encouragement from passers-by:
“I wear my CAFOD t-shirt when training, and always get lots of smiles and encouragement!”
For MaryAnne, the Silverstone 5K is equally meaningful, as she talks about how her training and fundraising embodies CAFOD’s values:
“The FCJ Sisters have among their priorities working for social justice and caring for our common home. So, this fits completely with the priorities of CAFOD, and we are delighted to be running 5k in Silverstone in aid of CAFOD to raise money.”
MaryAnne has been using the Couch to 5K programme to help her build up her stamina and prepare for the race.
“I am really not a runner at all. I’m using the NHS Couch to 5k programme to train and my aim on 24 November is that I can run round the Silverstone track without stopping. Speed isn’t a priority, but the training has to continue!”
So, if you’re attending the Silverstone Run Fest, be on the lookout for Lynne, MaryAnne and the CAFOD team. Supporting runners like Lynne and MaryAnne means backing a movement dedicated to making a difference. Let’s make the journey towards the finish line together!
